Hoji Stay is a unique space that combines different types of buildings commonly seen in the countryside, such as round houses, long houses, and octagonal houses. At first glance, it may appear unfamiliar and distinct, but upon closer observation, it evokes a sense of familiarity and warmth. Each building is elevated to waist height from the ground and interconnected along a circular path of the same level. This arrangement allows residents to enjoy their own private spaces while also providing opportunities to interact with neighbors as they step outside to the shared yard or stroll along the scenic sunset path. The absence of boundaries creates an ambiance reminiscent of a small, close-knit village.
The layout of Hoji Stay features a gently curving path, seemingly delicately placed above the soft grass, offering a vantage point to admire the garden below. The focus of the garden is not solely on aesthetics and design but rather on the harmonious connection and diversity between living organisms and the surrounding environment. The plants are carefully chosen to integrate with the natural characteristics and surroundings of the site. Inside the buildings, the furniture, including chairs and beds, is deliberately low in height. Sitting on these low, plush chairs, reminiscent of reassembled apple crates, allows for a unique perspective, bringing the floor closer and creating a fresh view of the interior space with distant ceilings. The design of the space, characterized by straight and diagonal lines, along with the thoughtfully designed interior, filled with filtered natural light, exudes a serene and stable atmosphere.
