A Pleasant Encounter with the Sea of Jeju Island
Jongdal-ri is a small village located between Jimi Oreum and Jongdal Badang on the east coast of Jeju Island. In this beautiful village, LOWSEA1978 with its green gate quietly waits for its guests. As if having been drifted by waves, the host couple left their lives in Seoul behind and relocated themselves in the island. And they found utmost comfort from the low sea of Jongdal Badang. The barista wife and the architect husband teamed up to transform the house, spanning from demolition, interior design and placing furniture. It took about the year for the co-hosts to build a place with a good balance among antiquity of pillars, frames of sliding doors and wooden floors, comfort and simplicity.
Fascinatingly, this place is named after the late dog that the host couple used to keep when they were remodeling, as well as the Jongdal Badang that flows low in front of Jongdal-ri. And adding the year that the house was first built, the couple came up with the naming idea to remember the past of the place. Further, the hosts are currently working on their next project of opening a namesake midnight diner in an annex. The project is part of the idea to serve guests in a place where they could rest and warm their hearts with savory dishes and a good night sleep. Location
There are many cute shops in Jongdal-ri, such as small bookstores, stylish editorial shops, and charming book cafes. Rossi 1978 is located in the middle of Jongdal-ri Village, which retains the charm of Jeju. I hope you will feel the warm time as if you were visiting your grandmother's house when you were young.
Welcoming
Starbucks coffee compatible with Nespresso machines, decaffeinated coffee, and TWG tea bags (decaf tea) are prepared. Jeju beer is also prepared according to the number of people. Bread, butter, and jam are also available for simple breakfast the next day. Enjoy a leisurely Jeju by eating and resting.
Nature
The mossy stone wall, green tree vines, fluffy clouds and the blue sky look like a moving picture frame through the window. At night, turn on the lights in the backyard, sit around and chat with your loved ones for a drink and get drenched in the night of Jeju.
