A century-old hanok with a spatial makeover

The word '나비잠' contains two meanings. Firstly, in Korean, 나비잠 refers to the comfortable sleep of a newborn baby, with arms spread above the head. It symbolizes a serene and cozy space where one can lay down worries and rest. The second meaning is akin to 'sweet dream,' expressing the hope that it becomes a space where people can come together, sharing dreams. The host aimed to create a stay where people can talk and work together while preserving the comfort and warmth of a traditional Korean house within the city.

This place is a space reborn from a Hanok (traditional Korean house) that is over 100 years old. While maintaining the structure and characteristics of Hanok, the design envisages a harmonious space that transcends the modern and moves towards the future. To complement the drawbacks and highlight the strengths of Hanok, large windows were used to enhance openness and convenience. By overlooking the garden and interior space, one can feel an extraordinary atmosphere. The main material is a subtle translucent acrylic, emphasizing the wooden ceiling beams and pillars. The reinterpretation of traditional colors, such as the deep pink floor and tiles, adds a unique touch not commonly found in traditional Hanoks. The stay is structured in a 'ㄷ' shape, consisting of a bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, dining area, and courtyard. Next to the bedroom, a workspace tailored for solo use is prepared, and the dining area features a large table suitable for group gatherings. Let's enjoy the stay in our own way.
