“You have to be always drunk. That's all there is to it—it's the only way. So as not to feel the horrible burden of time that breaks your back and bends you to the earth, you must be continually drunk. But on what? Wine, poetry, or virtue, as you wish. But be drunk.” - By Charles Baudelaire (Be Drunk) -
On what are we drunk? What are we intoxicated with, living every day as if we were running on a treadmill? Despite the fact that I am not intoxicated, my life is affected even by a single breath from others, and it is difficult to control my body. Today, a considerable number of people are reeling despite the fact that they are not drunk. After enduring the day after a boomerang-like return, some people decided to take the answer to the question! You can attain the tranquility you desire when you drink alcohol, enjoy nature, sleep, take a deep breath, and exhale. Ideally, you will be able to cope with all kinds of stress, fear, and obsession with ease.
Do you remember the last time you breathed out loud without worrying? Would it be possible not to notice the passage of time in the clothes of the subway passengers, in the condition of the trees, in the height of the sky, in the face of the flowers, and the temperature of the wind? Are you not able to be faithful to yourself and your family or loved one? As they started with so many questions, they have come to build a tiger's house and a temple close to the forest and welcome those who find themselves closest to nature to restore their true energy and time. It is a place where you can empty your mind through breathing, look at your thoughts, fill your own warmth, and take your own decisions. The resting place is "Chwihoga" in Homyeong-ri, Pyeongchang-gun.

Aspirations of a Tiger's House that will Gain Strength Once More
It was in Seoul that the host couple, who had been seeking balance and stability for some time in an environment that felt highly unstable, desired to be released from the vague life that had been accumulating frustrated feelings but could not reveal them. Creating and verifying new things is part of the daily routine, but it is difficult to enjoy enough sleep. In 2020, he returned to the village earlier than average in order to establish a more stable direction for his illustrious life. Whenever the couple feels fatigued in their daily lives, they travel around the country to find a new place to settle down. This is how they came to know Pyeongchang. Upon entering PyeongChang, as they were constantly looking at the coasts of Chungcheong-do, and Gangwon-do, they felt a tremendous sense of stability that they could not describe. In order to gain new energy and strength whenever becoming tired in the daily course of life, they wanted to build a tiger's house and stay there as a tiger would, and gain new energy and strength. "Chwihoga" is the name. It is the temple of the tiger where you can take a deep meaning, get drunk on the atmosphere, and get drunk because whiskey is served.

700 Meters Above Sea Level, the Perfect Place to Sleep and Breath
Pyeongchang-gun, Homyeong-ri, Gangwon-do. When you take the KTX from Seoul Station to Jinbu Station, you will arrive at the village of Chwihoga in the middle of the mountain, far from the village's private house, which is approximately 10 minutes away by car and 5 to 10 minutes from the intercity bus terminal. In Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do, Homyeong-ri is situated 700 meters above sea level. Historically, it has been believed that the best altitude for sleeping and breathing is 700 meters above sea level. Several centuries ago, a large and reliable rock stood at the entrance of the village. It was known as Homyeong-ri because of the theory that a tiger often climbed the rock and cried. The north of the city is home to Byeongdusan Mountain, which is surrounded by strange rocks like a foldable screen, while the south is home to Maesan Mountain, where there are many rocks thought to be home to hawks. Hawks are difficult to see elsewhere, but if you stay in the Chuiho area, you can view the scenery where hawks fly. It is a rare sight. As a matter of fact, the place where Chihoga is located is known as a place where the road along the sun passes in Homyeong-ri. The sunset here is spectacular on a daily basis. Moreover, there is very little artificial light present in the area, so the stars of the night are extremely bright and beautiful. The night is deeper and the day is long. As it breathes more during the day and exhales longer at night, it is the best place for a full rest.
MAKING STORY
Architectural design, including the classification of rooms and check-in buildings in consideration of overseas directions and weather conditions, to the entire construction process. The host also spoke with Kwang-il Ahn and Sol-ha Park of 100A Associate on the back end. As a result of meeting the two directors, the strong desire to have a forest-like environment for tigers was achieved. The list includes fir trees, globular trees, and pine bark, as well as various natural materials such as grass and stones. This is to create the impression that guests are a tiger entering a harsh forest. There is a valley-like water feature at the entrance of the check-in building. When it rains, a stream of water falls from the top, creating the illusion of a waterfall. After crossing the thick concrete wall of the rough rock-like check-in building, you will find yourself in a large cave with a tiger. Following this, a route was established to go deeper into each cave. There is no structural difference between the two caves, called inhalation and exhalation. It is important to note that objects are arranged differently in each room, as well as the scenery outside from the inside.
In terms of the interior, the tiger's house is once again portrayed. Tigers are said to live in a private area that can only be accessed by them. There is no doubt that tigers sleep at the highest point of their territory. It was believed that since they slept in a high place, they would eat in a lower place, so the host separated the two areas by placing a step in the bedroom. Similar to the room's name, inhalation, and exhalation, the room's interior also embodies the concept of breath. Breathing can be understood as being close to the color black, which values the inner self and facilitates deep reflection, and white, which offers the opportunity to begin anew from scratch. To fully experience the night, stars, and nights of Pyeongchang, we have minimized the exterior lighting. Additionally, it reflected the regional characteristics of Homyeong-ri. In contrast to other villages in Pyeongchang, Homyeong-ri is a particularly cold region, so it was necessary to insulate the space with more than twice as much effort.
The Chwihoga plan focuses on providing a place where one can eat well, sleep well, rest well, and drink well. The host couple, not anyone else, needed such a place and wanted to share it.
The aim was to replicate the tiger's temple, the tiger's house. Having carefully examined and thought about the characteristics of tigers, it has come to the following surprising conclusion. Tigers live in forests. In order to create a tiger's house that looks like it is in a forest, the host created a space similar to a forest. This is how this place came to be known as "Chwihoga". In reality, the name Chwihoga traces its origins back to the childhood of the husband of the host couple. When he was young, he admired and respected rapper Drunken Tiger and his music. Hang a big sign called "Chwihoga" over the house he built and follow him around like a tiger, walking around the house like a tiger, hoping to live a life like that, with some power to support it, although I cannot explain it at the tip of my toes. During their stay, the host thought that it would be nice if those in the house could benefit from a little more comfort, as well as a variety of meanings through his wishes. Having only decided on the name, the hosts visited the office of 100A Associate, an architect. Couples, who did not have any architectural knowledge, calmly expressed their lives in their minds. "I am a research professor. My wife is giving a lecture at the university. However, I would like to live in a rural area and run accommodation. The name of the place is Chwihoga, and the welcome drink is a whiskey cocktail." Based on the discussion between the couple and the director, the house design was developed.
SPACE
The Transition from One Breath to Another
Upon arrival, the first thing that you see is the check-in building of overpowering exposed concrete. At the front of the building is a terraced water area, and at the end of the front is a dignified tiger painting in a narrow courtyard. There is a kind of signal and mark indicating that it is a tiger temple. Consequently, the daily switch is turned off, and the switch that appears to have crossed time and space and entered the territory of the tiger has been turned on. Each room is paired with a different whiskey in an incense-filled check-in building. Upon exiting the majestic and majestic space of power and stepping into the room that continues to grow deeper, the bark of the tree beneath his feet is square, creating an atmosphere of entering a forest. In the garden in front of the room, Seokho, who has a cute expression, greets guests for the first time. In the case of rooms that arrive divided into two roads, they are arranged back and forth in a row.
During the preparation of Chwihoga, the host couple focused on breathing, resulting in complete rest and relaxation. Thus, the name of the room was decided based on the direction of breathing, which is always two directions. Inhale and exhale. While the rooms share the same structure, the views contained in the windows are different, and the whiskey paired accordingly is also arranged differently. A forest of fir trees provides an environment where the inside can concentrate since breathing is the direction in which the body lives and allows it to reach deep inside. Upon exhaling, the window became filled with outside scenery that could be viewed far away without blocking the view of life. The room is composed of a kitchen, an exterior deck, and a bedroom and bathroom area where food is cooked on an electric grill. The position of the bedroom is notable, adding to the fact that the tiger sleeps in the highest point of the room. In the corner of the bed, there was a natural jaw to sit on, forming a toenmaru-like space perfect for reading and listening to music. Throughout the bathroom, there is a space where you can breathe in the scent of stainless steel, like a tiger's temple, and a Hinoki bath is available for you to enjoy a peaceful rest with a herbal ball. Among other things, the subtle scent of rest spreads subtly. Fresh dew-soaked trees and moss in the morning, the thick woody scent of wild grass, a grassy smell, and a smoky scent. Hidden floral scents of wildflowers. In certain instances, the scent of outer diameter and space in harmony can be comforting, while in other instances, it can wake you up. Chwihoga's room is the best scent that he has created through experiments in which he visits countless scents, tests them, and stacks layers. Combined with the incense provided in the room, it evokes the sensuous sequence of "The Way From the Entrance of Odaesan Mountain, Through the Fir Tree Forest to Woljeongsa Temple," where the host family spent the most time. As a result of the transition of experience leading to the expansion of space, the external scenery represented in the room is emotionally drawn inside. You feel the outside environment even if you are inside.

INTERVIEW

chwihoga
I was wondering what the meaning of the name Chwihoga was.
"The temple of the tiger." I was going to build a house for a tiger. I thought it would be a place where I could stay like a tiger in a tiger's home and get a second wind when I'm tired from the energy I received. You get deeply seated, you get drunk by the ambiance, and you get drunk by the whiskey. It would be nice if there were a place where all of these meanings and directions could be expressed. In other words, I think it has something to do with my childhood when I liked the rapper Drunken Tiger. My utopian ideas were vague at the time. At the house I built with a big signboard called Chwihoga, I envisioned myself roaming around like a tiger with a bottle of whiskey in hand. In a sense, that was the beginning of my hobby, and I hope that the people who come to Stay will experience this feeling a little more and will feel at home.
What brought you to Pyeongchang and why did you decide on this location for Chwihoga?
When we were tired and weary, we traveled around the country together. There was no particular plan. With a vague assumption that one day we will create the space we desire, I looked around the country. After spending time in Chungcheong-do, Gangwon-do, Gyeongsang-do, and the coast, I felt very stable as soon as I arrived in Pyeongchang. I also visited various places in Pyeongchang. There were many beautiful and interesting places in the region, but I came to Homyeong-ri when I felt that something was missing. After arriving here, I could immediately sense that it was a place where my couple could rest properly. That's how I ended up staying here. Eventually, I convinced the owner of the land to purchase the property. I persuaded him quite strongly.
I would like to know more about the space and room.
Upon entering the Chwihoga, one passes through water spaces such as valleys, and when it rains, the water stream falls and tumbles through an area resembling a waterfall. You can find a big tiger in a cave if you pass through a rough, rocky concrete wall once more. Afterward, you can enter deeper caves on your own. The rooms are designed in the shape of a tiger's house. The area where tigers live is said to be an area that is not accessible to anyone except the tigers themselves. Considering that tigers sleep in higher places, I assumed they would play in lower places. By placing a bedroom at the highest point and placing steps around it, the interior of the room was divided into areas for washing, eating, and playing. All rooms are located to the South. By looking at the altitude of the South, you can enjoy the strongest sunlight at 12 o'clock every year, and we decided to check out of your house at 12 o'clock, hoping that you will receive a lot of tiger energy from it like a tiger.
I would like to know more about the artworks that are on display inside and outside the building.
Jae-soon Lee is the artist of the Seokho (a stone statue of a tiger) in the garden. As a traditional form, Seokho was intended to serve as a space keeper and drive away negative energy, but Jae-soon Lee chose to place it on the palace's platform to make it a traditional form. Therefore, it has both scary and cute parts. Having discussed a great deal with Chairman Jae-soon Lee, we have reached this point. Thus, Seokho is chasing away bad luck, and I hope that those who visit Chwihoga will feel the same way. A lacquer work of traditional Korean paper, which adorns the door of each room, is by Geum-ju Han. This work here is designed by the two directors of 100A Associates to greet those who visit.
Would you please explain the contents of the whiskey cocktail kit to curated books and breakfast?
Having whiskey and cocktail kits in mind, I envisioned them as a way for those who arrived with complicated and tired minds to relieve their minds. To help those who are unfamiliar with whiskey, I created a whiskey cocktail kit that allows you to enjoy whiskey lightly and I assumed it would be fun to make, drink, and enjoy it. In breathing, rooms are usually prepared for traditional cocktails such as the Old Fashioned or Manhattan. Since the exhalation room has a slightly more open view, we primarily offer high balls that provide a refreshing sensation. To make the cocktail kit a little more enjoyable, after you check in, turn the water in the Hinoki soup through very low, and, while you are looking at the instructions for the whiskey cocktail, enjoy it slowly. If you drink it immediately after making it, it is too strong, so I suggest you enjoy it slowly. You will be able to enjoy the experience of melting fatigue and emptying your mind in order to fill it up with more things if you drink a whiskey cocktail on an empty stomach. Upon receiving some water in Hinoki-tang, we hope you will be able to fully enjoy your lower body bath by using a herb ball, lay down on your bed, sleep, or read lightly by reading the list of books we provide as a way to put down your tired thoughts and minds. Having rested like that, I recommend a place in the kitchen where you can spend time alone or speak with your friends and prepare delicious meals. Perhaps a drink under the stars would be pleasant. At the end of this journey, which began with a drink, we serve breakfast with porridge because we want you to have an enjoyable stay.

Odaesan Fir Tree Forest Road
It is a beautiful and quiet forest road. It is possible to enjoy the sound of frogs croaking in the spring, the taste of fresh green in summer, the dance of reeds swaying in the fall, and the white of the snow on the fir trees in the winter. This peaceful route, which can be experienced in all four seasons, can be crossed by a bridge linking two straight forest paths facing each other before returning to its original position.
STAY’s recommended Local Restaurant
Odaesan Farm Restaurant
At 15,000 won per person, you can enjoy a healthy and very delicious meal consisting of a variety of seasoned vegetables, soybean paste stew, acorn jelly, and grilled deodeok. The view of the vast field in front of the main gate is a bonus compared to other nearby restaurants.
STAY
Be a Tiger and Become Nature
An experience of being a tiger at the top of the food chain in nature. Upon entering his secret space, he walked leisurely, relaxed with a drink, and raised his head to the sky. At night, one looks at the stars on the road where the sun is longest and relieves fatigue in Hinoki-tang, which has a subtle scent. Allow your eyes to rest and enjoy the time to relax your mind. In the process of making a whiskey cocktail that has never been made before, your body feels dense with small cells until you are able to savor it. A sense of living Emancipation begins with the ankles that were entrapped in daily repetition and self-obsession. Exhale deeply. The scent of fir trees fills my nose. There appears to be clean air surrounding the village, as well as a clear head and mind. Look at the distant mountain from the edge of the stepped bed as if you could see a tiger. There are no buildings to obstruct your view. All you can see are trees, trees, mountains, and confidence. This was the kind of consolation I needed. Tiger, nature is calling. Although humans are also part of nature, it is difficult for them to be natural on their own. During his stay in Chihoga, he transforms into a tiger and becomes nature, and therefore, resembles nature.
3:00 pm
Reach a deep valley in the forest
The man climbed up an open hill and stood in front of the thick and heavy check-in building. Due to heavy rain the day before, the water space is filled with water. From top to bottom, the sound of the water flows creates the impression of reaching a deep forest valley. The host will provide you with whiskey according to the type of room you are staying in. Perhaps the incense caused me to wander off to a faraway place.
6:00 pm
The time has come to be a tiger
A list of books on the living room table led me to a book I wanted to read. As I gaze at the natural scenery filled with pancakes, I sit across the bed with the book I brought into the room and read and repeat the peaceful movement while holding the book. It is time to relax like a tiger as the sun is setting for a long time.
10:00 pm
Drinking a cocktail and watching the stars at night
I turned on warm water in Hinoki-tang after finishing the recommended wild vegetable set meal. In the kitchen, slowly make cocktails while looking at the cocktail kit and guide until the water fills up properly. As I hold the finished cocktail, I walk out onto the deck. The night sky is filled with stars. This is the essence of luxury. In the Hinoki bath, you can gaze at the stars before falling asleep. Place the herb ball on the lumpy shoulders after soaking it in water. The warmth and atmosphere gradually ease the tension of daily life.
8:30 am
An enjoyable morning
On arrival at the outdoor table, the tiger sister served porridge. Taking in the fresh air, I slowly savor the sincere and neat breakfast. It is as full of love as my mother's homemade food. The morning sun and a bowl of porridge warm your body and soul.
12:00 pm
Drunk on nature, air, and the sky
Inhale deeply and exhale slowly. It is truly a pleasant place to be. I may now resume your daily activities. Even as I am relaxing in the garden, I take the time to read a few more pages of the book I received yesterday. I am becoming intoxicated. Air, trees, and the sky. As a result, I have the ability to return to my daily life in order to take my will. As if I were a tiger.
4 POINT OF VIEW
ORIGINALITY
An absence of unconscious breathing
As one enters the tiger temple, one is freed from the unconscious breath that inhales and exhales, and in doing so, one is able to experience the true breath. It is a comfortable place to live, where you can live, sleep, and rest in a comfortable setting. It was built by people who dreamed of a place where they could breathe, sleep, and rest.
DESIGN
Keeping a distance without going far
It is located somewhere in a deep forest where tigers live. The water is collected in a waterfall that flows between the huge rock-like temples at the entrance. Once you have passed through a forest-like garden that will accumulate for a long time, you will enter your own rooms and caves. A mysterious smell that leads to stability surrounds the sounds of the scenery and the welcome greeting of the lacquered Korean paper works. Tigers enjoy both inside and outside their houses in such a low posture, but with a commanding spirit.
Hospitality
The inward gaze and the passing of time
Is it possible to accomplish the magic of emptying? A combination of the sound of water, bark, scenery, and birds is used to calm the rough waves in the mind, and the comfortable space is filled with stars, moons, the setting sun, and mountains so there is no time to think about anything else. It is emptied in this manner. Time and gaze settle in naturally. This is what one dreams of but cannot accomplish anywhere.
PRICE
With a sip of alcohol, one becomes drunk
The enclosed daytime scenery is magnificent and the nighttime scenery is peaceful. Get drunk with a sip of alcohol, get drunk with fresh and clean air, calm down, and get drunk with a steady heartbeat and an even breathing pattern. Hawks soar, fir trees dance, and mountains like folding screens cozy up with the moment. Where you need to get drunk in order to discover the true meaning of life that you have forgotten.
