Making the Experience
of Wellness a Part of the Trip
Yoga, meditation, food, and small meet up cultures that have gotten popular recently are the indication of heightened interest in health not simply limited to the body but to emotion and relationship. New lifestyle and consumer’s trend is transitioning from wellbeing that stems from the interest in healthy life to “wellness” that seeks to achieve a physically, mentally and socially complete life.
The idea of wellness is also applied to traveling. As the importance of rest is more emphasized, the concept of a healing trip is more widespread in which vacation or spa can balance the body and mind. Businesses are also proactively investing their resources in providing the environment to restore energy, which has resonated with people. To modern people, how to rest is a way of expressing themselves and therefore the rest means more than just a means to enhance productivity.
Fusion Resort Cam Ranh to be introduced today also features “wellness” as their core value and presents the value of rest. Anyone who visits Fusion will take treatment and learn about their body and eventually about the wellbeing. Based on their service including not only healthy food but also spa and treatment, Fusion is the messenger that delivers the value of wellness for an invigorating and complete life.
Furthermore, Fusion is consolidating their core value, “making the experience of wellness a part of the trip.” Fusion Retreat, currently under the process, is the place where they try to apply the concept of health one step above, so they can make the experience of “staying” part of one’s life’s progress. We’ll delve into the meaning of mental and physical health that Fusion pursues and how they brought it into the reality.

Fusion Resort Cam Ranh,
Pursuit of Health
Fusion started their first project “Fusion Maia” in Da Nang in 2008. They built a spa room unprecedented in size, recruited their own therapists, showing their innovative attempt for resort that includes spa treatments as a focus. For the first 2-3 years when they launched Fusion Maia, they built the strong core value and set the company’s direction as “a place that pursues health.”
The first section of Fusion Resort Cam Ranh opened in 2015, and the second section consecutively opened in 2018. As Cam Ranh was the gate to its region’s capital Nha Trang and a new international airport was built, Fusion was one of the first resorts that invested in the region. “There were mainly two reasons we chose Cam Ranh. First, we expected the city to grow larger with the new international airport. And second, it was one of the most ideal places when considering better access for Asian tourists.”
Fusion is launching their new resort project in the Cam Ranh as a base to realize their wellness vision and to respond to the expanding Asian market. Fusion is also trying to achieve its ambitious goal to provide more customized and deeper wellness program in connection with Fusion Resort Cam Ranh. This new project, Fusion Retreat, will be the six star spa hotel in Dong Hoi.
At Fusion Resort, anyone can experience their unique vision. It features Fusionista, the main staff, and 30 spa rooms with 100 therapists, which is one fifth of the entire employee base. This size is unusual for the resort industry. Guests can experience spa treatments 3-4 times a day and customized programs. It will ultimately give them the chance to think about their body.

Fusion Resort Cam Ranh
location
Vietnam’s Gem,
Beauty of Long Beach
Fusion Resort Cam Ranh is located on the beautiful Long Beach between Nha Trang and Cam Ranh. The resort has a great advantage in terms of accessibility, which is only 45-minute distance from downtown Nha Trang, the largest vacation spot in the south, also called Vietnam's Mediterranean Sea for its beautiful beach and islands. It’s also only 4 km away from Cam Ranh International Airport which has direct flights to and from Seoul.
The resort boasts its size accommodating as many as 500 employees on duty. The land can be divided into two sections. The first is called Stage 1, which opened August 2015. It is on a hill facing down Long Beach; instead of shaving the site flat, like the other resorts in the area, Fusion Resort repositioned the landscape to utilize the terrain so the sea is visible from every room along the hill. Stage 1 has 72 units in total.
In December, 2018, Stage 2 with 50 units opened on the land behind the hill. Since it had disadvantage in location where guests can’t overlook the sea, they had to wrestle with how to make people want to have experience this section. Their answer was to place a private garden and pool at every unit in this section. In the middle of the property, there comes a huge swimming pool, yoga pavilion and a gym, which allows guests to enjoy their wellness program with a fabulous view.
“Fusion values ‘difference’ over perfection. In other words, it’s critical to create ‘wow point’ in planning and constructing the space.” Connecting the reception to the sea, the straight fountain path represents the time for thought, and Hideaway Swimming Pool and infinity pool bring the freedom from the dull ordinary life. Above all, I had impression that they put a lot of effort in designing the experience that encompasses both inside and outside the guestroom, as well as experiential programs.
MAKING STORY
A bed comes in the center of the guestroom at Fusion. Though this placement might not be practical, it allows guests to watch the green nature and blue ocean while laying down in bed. They wanted to create a place that bring out thoughts of “I love this” from guests. Inspired from Cabana, the exterior of the building resembling a tent shows their creative attempt.
This gives the room a unique look even from a distance. The rooms come with a private pool and a garden outside—except for some units in Stage 1. Large windows inside the rooms hold the view of the surrounding landscape. Nature’s color used in furniture gives warmth to the atmosphere of the rooms. Fusion Resort Cam Ranh's rooms feature a bold and linear design of the natural environment.
Fusion’s planning started from the simple question: “What experience makes the perfect vacation?” They figured out that more than half of the value of the resort to be built on Long Beach will come from a scenic view of the ocean. While most of resorts shaved the land flat, Fusion chose to keep the sand hill intact because they wanted to offer the ocean view available from all units.
However, since the Stage 2 was located in the back pocket of the hill, it had to overcome its disadvantage in location and to develop a selling point. They placed a dramatically huge swimming pool in the middle of the property at the expense of more rooms. It was a bold move that they had never tried before. Surrounding Hideaway Swimming Pool in the middle is a lounge and yoga pavilion. Each room unit also has a private pool and a garden. Carts running on the property increase the mobility and connect these two sections.
SPACE
All Spa Inclusive
Beach Resort
Under the theme “tropical chic,” Fusion Resort Cam Ranh’s guestrooms feature vibrant color of the nature in furniture and finishing that works in harmony with a wide spectrum of lights of the sea and plants. Open plan rooms with its size, high ceiling, and large windows blur the line with nature and make the space look wide open. They intended to create a space that spotlights beautiful beach and sand of Long Beach
The exterior of the building, bringing the image of Cabana on the Mediterranean beach, is based on the design of a tent. The finishing touch of the concrete roof used a tent material, which was the first attempt they tried in their resort. It was important for them to develop room structure and placement in Stage 1 on the hill that overlooks the sea from every angle. Stage 2, situated on the lower ground, offers a huge hillside swimming pool as a selling point.
10 types of guestrooms at Fusion Resort Cam Ranh. While they all share the design concept, they diversified the number of bedrooms and views—ocean, ocean side and garden—in order to offer more options for different types of customers that vary from couples to families. All guestrooms are equipped with a terrace and porch where guests can enjoy a garden and the beach and feature iconic design elements like sunbed, rain shower and hammock style bath facilities.
At Fusion, guests can enjoy Breeze Restaurant beside the pool with tapas style food and snacks; Zen Bar with salad, pizza and cocktails; Fresh Restaurant for a breakfast; Maia Spa with 30 treatment rooms and Maia Boutique where a range of hand-picked, locally sourced products are available. Outdoor pavilion also hosts a variety of programs such as yoga or meditation.
INTERVIEW
Interview with Fusion Group

Fusion Resort Cam Ranh
We want to know how Fusion launched. When did you start the business?
Fusion was created in 2008 with a project in Da Nang with a project called Fusion Maia. A group of investors living in Vietnam at the time decided to create a resort in that specific location but they didn’t know exactly what the concept would be. They eventually created the concept of “property that is more oriented toward health.” However, instead of comprehensive research, they just created a basic spa. Since it was an unfamiliar concept, the market didn’t react in 2008. It took 2 to 3 years to really create a strong value, which became our main value.
Because of the inclusive spa, Fusion is a completely different organization. We have a lot of therapists and large spa rooms in the hotels. The investors today wouldn’t understand why 20 to 30 treatment rooms are needed and they would build only 2 to 3. However, our concept was different in 2008, which was completely innovative. If it didn’t work we would’ve had a lot of space unused, but it turned out to be an advantage in the end. Because of that, we’re the leader in Vietnam. Today, we are focusing in Vietnam because we want to cover many regions with the Fusion brand. Of course going international would be great but for now we want to be the leader in Vietnam.
Where did you draw inspiration when you designed Fusion Resort?
That’s a big question. We start with asking ourselves questions when we design something: What’s the address? What’s the size of the land? Where is it located, in the city or an island? What can we build—are we allowed to build tall buildings or only with two floors? What’s the size of the building? When we do it for the clients, we need to figure out their needs because they have an idea of what they want it to look like, such as grass covered rooftops, or at least 100 rooms, etc. To set the direction of the work, we answer all of these questions and finally began the work. On top of that, since Fusion has many brands, we have to ask ourselves what brand we’d like to make. We’re currently running Fusion Resort, Fusion Originals and Fusion Suites, and developing a new brand—unnamed yet—that falls in to a three to four range business hotel.
On the other hand, we are also developing a six star hotel, Fusion Retreat. Once we go through all the questions first and decide what brand we want to apply, we ask another question to ourselves “What customers are we expecting?” For example, in some cities, we see high demands from Korean customers. In that case, we would need to figure out their specific needs, including food, spa and wellness preference. That’s why we take our time to examine from different angles before we start a project. At Fusion, as its name itself suggests, different styles are blended. We don’t promote that all of our design is traditional. These styles vary depending on the location. Where the building itself is traditional and blends well to the local architecture, interior design can be fun, colorful, and completely opposite. This is what “fusion” means to us. Regardless of construction, interior design, food and beverage or spa, our goal is to never cease to impress our customers. After all, it’s all about customers.
Can you introduce Fusion Resort Cam Ranh’s design?
When you take a look at the room, the bed is placed in the middle of the room. When we designed this, we considered what experience makes the best vacation. It would essentially be just laying down on bed and appreciating the view, we thought. You could watch a video but there’s no need to when the view is fabulous. Surrounded by green, you could lay down and read a book or play with children, thinking “This is fantastic. I’m happy.” This is the reason we put the bed in the center of the room.
Other companies would hesitate to make this decision because they think it’s unprecedented or difficult. In that sense, whatever we do—a room structure is just one of examples—Fusion always strives to be bold and innovative. Therefore, your question, where our inspiration comes from, feels heavy. Since we always try to embody a couple of Vietnamese elements in our design, the answer could be “ordinary life.” Incorporating French colonial style with food is not Vietnamese, so you won’t be able to see it at Fusion. We don’t serve what’s not relevant to local culture. Just like that, Fusion is always connected to Vietnam and its specific location.
What would you like people to feel when they’re staying at Fusion’s property?
As the experience of having the wellbeing is part of their journey, we wanted to give them an initiation. A lot of guests have never done a spa treatment before. We wanted to allow them to use this initiation within the Fusion hotels where they do two or three treatments a day, learn about their body, and eventually learn about their wellbeing. Good massage gives relaxation and peace, and in this initiation we want them to learn. When the guests first come to Fusion, they understand the value of wellbeing. And when they go back home, they learn something. Within the brands we have at Fusion, we have the Fusion Resort which is the initiation, and now we’re building the Fusion Retreat which is one step above where we allow them to go even deeper into wellbeing. And that becomes an initiation into the next step of their life’s progress. It’s not only about food; it’s also about the mind, soul, which we are now putting into reality in Fusion.
What plans do you have for Fusion Retreat?
You have the Fusion Resort, which we call the mainstream, it’s like the middle of the pyramid. Then you have guests that go for 2-3 treatments, things like body massage, Tai Chi, Reiki, or things which are traditional and conventional. Fusion Retreat is a step above. Things—weight loss, meditation, acupuncture, detox program, etc.—you don’t have available within Fusion Resort are offered. In Fusion Retreat, guests don’t stay 2 nights, but instead they stay 3 or 4 nights. They go for the purpose of finding themselves and trying to relax because there are a lot of people nowadays who work for 360 days a year, non-stop. But they need to have a place where they can just reenergize or rejuvenate. Fusion Retreat fulfill that need. We can make a program for them, which includes a food or meditation program. It will be a smaller hotel; instead of 100 villas, there will be 50 villas with a bigger spa where people have one therapist for themselves and other programs to enjoy for 3-4 nights.

Searching for the True Rest
in Body and Mind
Low-cost carrier’s new flights have made trip to Vietnam more accessible. Cam Ranh, Nha Trang where Fusion Resort Cam Ranh is located is recently gaining new spotlight, along with famous tourist spot Da Nang. While Nha Trang has been the traditional vacation destination hosting many resorts since the French Indochina era, Cam Ranh is the rising area where its value is recently recognized especially with its unblemished coastal scenery and the new international airport that makes the trip easier.
The fact it only takes 15 minutes by car, which comes down to 4 km, from the airport to Fusion Resort Cam Ranh is a an advantage. The shuttle takes guests to the resort in the blink of an eye. The resort is on a small hill looking down Long Beach. We stayed in Garden Pool Villa that accommodates a private pool and a garden. Within 132m2-room, there is a living room both inside and outside the room and a separate dining area. Guestroom units are sprinkled along the hill looking down the beautiful beach.
Fusion Cam Ranh reminds me of Fusion Phu Quoc. The reception is in the center of the resort and the water fountain stretched from the reception to the sea is quite impressive. Along the way is Beach Front Pool, the infinity pool, and Fresh Restaurant where breakfast and other food menus are available. Zen Bar is featured in the middle of the pool. A glass of cocktail from the bar while swimming was quite nice. Hideaway Swimming Pool that opened recently brings up the image of expansive lake. It was fun to explore around the area in a buggy.
The resort features “all inclusive spa” service, meaning anyone can enjoy the spa program twice a day. Though I liked the body, skin, and nail care, other health programs from yoga and meditation to fitness were also refreshing. Staying with Fusion is like being provided with professional rest program with its comprehensive and structural system with its guestroom, food and treatment. It was a trip that truly gave my body and mind a full rest.
AM 08:00
Arriving
at Fusion Resort Cam Ranh
As soon as we landed in Cam Ranh with direct flight from Incheon, the staff holding the Fusion sign welcomed us. The small Cam Ranh airport was once an air force airfield and has been promoted to an international airport since 2007. In Korea, Korean Air, Jeju Air, Eastar, and T-way are in service, making it easy to access. I was able to get to the resort in 10 minutes by limousine.
AM 10:30
Early Check-In and Pleasant First Impression
Fusionista, the Fusion’s icon, welcomed us with a cool towel and a cup of tea. With their kind instruction, we were able to check in early. Extraordinary reception design, water fountain stretched straight out to the sea and villa units show Fusion’s style as well as the beauty of nature.
PM 2:30
Enjoying Beer and Brunch
at Breeze Bar
I treated myself during the day. I explored every corner of the resort by buggy car, enjoying bars and restaurants on the property. Recently opened Breeze Bar had simple comfort food and drink menus. I headed there for lunch and enjoyed my relaxing time looking at people swimming and resting.
PM 5:00
Fusion’s
Infinity Pool
The main swimming pool in front of Fresh Restaurant is a marvelous place presenting the view of Long Beach’s horizon. It is also the guests’ favorite photo shoot spot. The pool was 2 meters deep and I enjoyed swimming here. While laying down on sunbed and listening to the music, I felt the sea breeze gently touching my face and I quite liked it.
PM 6:00
Wood Fired Pizza
at Zen Bar
Right next to the infinity pool is the beach side bar called Zen Bar. Guests can have drinks and tapas style food while taking in the breathtaking view of the sea. I ordered wood fired pizza they make on the spot. Discount price for cocktails and fresh fruit juice during happy hours is not to be missed.
AM 10:00
Spa Treatment,
a Must-Have Experience
Guests can receive two spa treatments a day during their stay. Today, I combined these two into one long 80-minute session. The time I spent in a quiet and respectful atmosphere of the spa room relaxed my fatigued body and mind. I was also able to go through a checkup with the therapist on my body and request specific things to my liking.
PM 12:00
Yoga
I Was Looking For
Pavilion inside the spa regularly hosts a variety of wellness programs every day. Among options like Tai Chi and yoga, I chose a yoga class. The 50-minute yoga class led by the yoga master aims to completely relax the body and mind by combining breathing and meditation with stretches. I had to wait for the class but it was worth it.
PM 3:00
Lazy Afternoon
in the Room
Fusion Resort Cam Ranh's rooms feature panoramic views and openness that match the tropical climate. Fusion Resort offers Breakfast Anytime Anywhere available literally whenever and wherever you want. With the private pool full of green energy from nature, I enjoyed the lazy afternoon.
4 POINT OF VIEW
ORIGINALITY
Creative Seclusion and Blissful Loneliness
Fusion Resort Cam Ranh allows us to rest in nature, which presents the lonely yet happy moments to reflect deeply on ourselves. Fusion’s unique service—spa treatment, wellness program and breakfast anywhere anytime—leads our trip to the physically, mentally and socially invigorating and complete life.
DESIGN
Wit and Aesthetics of Fusion Resort that Dreams of Harmony between Nature and Region
Facing the long beach that connects Nha Trang and Cam Ranh is a 28-meter dune. Fusion pursued architecture that harmonized with the terrain instead of flattening the land like other resorts. Fusion understands the region with depth and mixed it with modern touch to create unique values and offer their experience unique to their identity. Vietnamese elements embedded in their modern space explicitly shows their wit and sense of aesthetics.
Hospitality
Making Wellness Experience a Part of the Trip
As seen in Fusion Maia, the original version, and Fusion Retreat, the future plan, the core value of Fusion is “to make wellness experience a part of the trip.” While staying at Fusion, allow yourself to experience their value that pursues healthy life through your trip and feel the spirit of wellness that enriches your life.
PRICE
Being There Itself Makes the Tri
Low-cost carriers have made a Vietnamese trip more accessible. Middle and small sized cities like Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Nha Trang and Ho Chi Minh City have been more sought after in recent years. Fusion Resort Cam Ranh can be a reasonable choice considering its proximity to the airport, all inclusive service and relatively inexpensive price. From here, you can also enjoy Nha Trang, the largest vacation destination in the south, which is famous for its beautiful beaches.
