than meet your expectations. By riding in cars, planes, trains, or buses, you can make them feel as though they do not wish to do anything. The purpose of leaving is to escape. From what? It represents an escape from the present that I am unable to concentrate on at this time. There is an underlying desire to crawl out of the land somehow from the constant ebb and flow of countless stimuli in the city and life in minutes or seconds. It is with great anticipation that I wait. It is enough to make the decision to deviate from daily routine and leave the end of the road, perhaps the least desirable choice, to empty it of precious time and money. There will be sufficient rest if there is a destination where staying itself is true rest. The land beyond time and space has spread beyond Korea, like the mother's arms before a landscape surrounded by mountains. This is a place where you can fully focus on the time and where you stand, protected and comforted by the flow of time, where you can immerse yourself without even remembering why you left. The word "IJE (meaning 'now')" refers to the present moment. To focus on the present, we must leave for "IJE in the South Sea."

Watching Water, Wind, and Bamboo Fields
Having developed a passion for travel, he works on Namhae IJE as the first branch of the brand. While explaining human life, I asked myself whether I was able to separate travel, and I had time to consider the action, meaning, value, and purpose of travel in many ways. As part of the process of developing a brand, I experienced both large and small stays at home and abroad and realized that there were few places in Korea that focused solely on rest in a quiet and quiet atmosphere, except for hotels and resorts. In recent years, there have been some good accommodations with various shapes and plans, but they have not been like that in the past, which is regrettable. In the course of operating and managing the hotel directly for years and building know-how, people who understood the importance of a space for rest themselves gathered. As soon as you enter, you do not have to worry about anything, and you can relax in the "IJE" space. There is no need to think about what to do or what to eat. You will be able to solve all your problems as soon as you choose this location. It has now begun.
It was designed by the space brand and architectural interior design studio "The First Penguin," headed by director Jae-young Choi. As its name implies, it is a studio with a reputation for creating groundbreaking and sensuous space branding and design. It was the second stay project for those who worked primarily on upper spaces. After the progress was confirmed, Jae-young Choi, director of The First Penguin, visited the site with his team members again. During my walk, I noted the impressions and appearance of the ground, and when I first visited, I was able to observe only the appearance of pearls entering and leaving the water, but when I returned, I was able to read the back image and the context of nature surrounding the surrounding area. There was a colony of bamboo beyond Pearl. In the mountain behind, a bamboo colony was formed, and when the wind blew, bamboos hit each other in the wind or scattered leaves, creating a fresh and refreshing sound. Upon entering the bamboo colony and spending time in silence, and intensively observing the surrounding environment, Namhae "IJE" began to take shape.

IJE NAMHAE
location
A Quiet Island Surrounded by Nature's Sounds
The island of Namhae is the fourth largest in Korea. King Gyeongdeok of Silla named the southern sea Namhae-gun, which is an old place name dating back 1,300 years. There are only islands on this island, which is located in the west of Gyeongsangnam-do. It consists of two main islands, Namhae and Changseon, which are connected by land and bridge to Sacheon-si and Donghae-gun. In the media, jukbang anchovies, German villages, and dwarang rice paddies became well known. Near Namhae IJE is the old road. Because it is a little distance from the new road where cars normally travel, it is very quiet, adding to the characteristics of the Namhae region. Aside from the sound of cars, you can barely hear the sounds of nature, such as the sound of birds and the wind. In Korea, it is difficult to find a site suitable for escape. It is revealed that the land of the sea, Pearl, lies beneath the water of the sea right in front of Namhae. Unlike the tidal flats on the west coast, it has a very different texture. Rather than a pearl, it is an impression of texture, similar to the surface of Mars or a soil field. With its unique characteristics, it is a place that allows you to focus on the identity of the land without simply recognizing the sea as water. Due to the fact that the mountains surround it like a folding screen, rather than the sea stretching out into the vast ocean, it is never lonely. Rather have a cozy impression.
MAKING STORY
As the project involved the renovation of existing buildings, not the construction of new ones, there were limitations in terms of the composition of rooms or programs. Consequently, it was not possible to establish a plan where all rooms would be connected to the outside environment, and some rooms on the middle floor were single rooms. In the case of new construction, some structural solution or method could have been found, but this was quite disappointing. While accepting the limitations, he tore the windows as large as possible, bringing the outside environment into the house. Thus, most indoor and outdoor rooms must be connected horizontally or vertically. Also, the movement line wanted to create an impression of a resort or detached house where one could enter directly as a room without having to pass through the hall. Although structurally challenging, the idea was developed as much as possible to achieve a private movement on the first floor.
Respecting the basic layout of the building, with two buildings attached in the form of a "D", and deciding where to open and where to block it was critical. The sea may have been natural, but in the end, people decided that it was best to sit in their rooms and enjoy nature, so they definitely opened the door to the outside. It was previously open to the other side, but when I first saw the hotel, I decided it would be much better to feel the impression of the hotel and the message it sends, so I made a closed gesture inside. Also, this gesture led to the materials, and after considerable effort, the brick most similar to the color of the impressive land in Namhae was discovered. As a result, it was possible to design a wish that connected the story of the land and the building. As well, bricks constructed by stacking had to take into account the intensity experienced when they existed in a certain manner as if they were applied thoroughly, as well as the texture when the light was cast on the other side. This was accomplished by blocking the inside in a closed manner in order to capture various stories in the most attractive and reasonable manner. This process of thinking has resulted in the inside of the two buildings in the middle building being closed and the outside being wide open.
As we confirmed the brand name of IJE, the most important factor was the scalability of localism that could capture the various colors of different regions around the world. The South Sea branch was envisioned as a space that could contain the planning intentions of the brand IJE while taking advantage of each characteristic. Whatever I was doing, I wanted this to be a moment that could apply to anyone, and I wanted to evoke a sense of the value of "IJE," which refers to a time when we can experience things that are outside of our everyday lives. Regardless of which branch you visit at any time, it provides "rest" and "healing." Their objective was to spread their values to various regions so they could reach more people and give them the opportunity to rest. You can imagine the Namhae branch as a Ryokan branch if you look at it only, but if you examine the branches scheduled for opening in August 2022, such as Gijang, Gwangalli, etc., you will notice a distinctive design and a distinct planning intention for each branch. Furthermore, Namhae (IJE) was the brand's first branch, so it had a special relationship with its employees. The First Penguin represents Design, Lyle Studio represents Landscape, Yogo Furniture represents Furniture, and Aromatica and Tone 28 represent Equipment. Additionally, the aroma oil warmer in the room was the work of Jung-joo Lim, and the restaurant bowl was manufactured by Dong-beom Shin Studio, Pan Studio, and Wol-Tuesday Water Woodworking Room.
The First Penguin believed that the tranquility of the South Sea was an important context in which people who are tired of busy daily life or downtown can experience different times and spaces. IJE is the name of the project that was started by the team. It was based on the fact that a special land in the southern sea that gives the impression of Mars was one of its unique characteristics. The client threw the direction of the large project. It was wished to be a space centered on the spa since it was the most practical and specific homework. A separate outdoor bathtub is also available in rooms with a garden or rooftop in addition to the family bath. The assignment was to place three types of bathtubs at a time of hotel experience. Although the need for so many bathtubs was questionable at first, the team fully understood the point that it would be nice to experience bathtubs and spas in a variety of situations and environments in the near future. The more the client's story was thought through, the more the project got more interesting, rather it was decided that even the same water would feel very different depending on the environment. The team began to develop a way to provide a colorful bathtub experience. Furthermore, the overall theme and basis for Namhae's design were how to open the senses that are not typically used or felt. Throughout the process, it was considered how to expand his senses by using tactile materials on the outer wall so guests can view the movement of light, visualizing the wind with the bamboo colony in the middle, or installing a furnace in the room.
SPACE
A Rich Experience and an Intended Design
Despite its proximity to those leaving Gyeongsang-do, it is quite a distance from Seoul or the metropolitan area. We are greeted with a special impression upon arriving after driving for more than five hours. Within a matter of seconds, you are greeted by a large gate that appears to be entering the residence of someone you know, and your excitement and expectations are heightened as the gate slowly opens. The moment you arrive at Namhae IJE and park in front of the reception area, you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire and recommended oil and tea based on your requirements. IJE, you will be able to experience aromatherapy without regard to the number of rooms. This place strives to provide a sincere experience that is as meaningful and lingering as possible. After meeting with a professional aromatherapy expert, explaining the present's purpose and plan, and consulting on how to use and blend oils for more than a month, visitors can be recommended a total of seven oils and four blending combinations. Aromatherapy is achieved by using warmers (by artist Jeong-ju Lim) and stones in the room.Once the check-in information has been received, a reservation will be made for the reserved room. In the various types of rooms that offer a view of the sea, the sea and mountains together, or the mountains alone, there are two baths, one indoor and one outdoor, as well as an outdoor brazier where wood can be burned. All rooms, except those on the second floor that are singles, are subject to this policy. A Hinoki cypress wood bathtub was used in the interior, and a marble granite bathtub was used on the exterior. It may be a bathtub in the same room but soaking in water creates a completely different atmosphere. While the indoor bathtub feels warm and moist in general, the outdoor bathtub has a cold face and upper body when the weather is cool or cold, and the lower body is warm when the water is warm.
According to the order of room reservations, reservations can be made once a day for 45 minutes, the day before check-in or on the day of the reservation. Among the spaces with bathtubs, the most outstanding and quiet are those where you can enjoy tea and a spa in a private atmosphere. For a dense spa experience, high walls or bamboo eaves are installed to stabilize the interior. Depending on its use, Byeolchaetang plays a slightly different role. When used by couples in conjunction with children, it will be a space where couples can talk while looking at children playing in the bathtub, and when loved ones use it, it will be a place where they can have their own quiet time, creating more fun and deeper stories. You must now circle Jungjeong in order to reach the detached house, which appears to have moved the bamboo colony behind you. In Jungjeong, the wind is visualized. As the wind blows through the open gap between the two buildings, bamboo shakes due to the wind blowing through the gap. It is estimated that about 1,000 weeks of bamboo have been planted, and on the road passing by, one can witness the flow of time and the movement of light on a solid surface made of bricks. A dense experience is created by the intended design and extended movement lines. Breakfast and dinner are included in the price. Dinner includes a seafood-themed Korean table, sukiyaki with Korean beef tu-horn, and sherbet made from Namhae citron, which boasts an astonishing quality. A thick Jeonbuk porridge is also served for breakfast, which can comfortably soothe the stomach in the morning. It is evident that efforts have been made to capture the characteristics of the area in which each branch is located. It was a delicious and healthy meal. I enjoyed my stay very much.

IJE NAMHAE
I would like to know the background of the name.
As we chose the name of the brand, IJE, it was very important to capture a variety of colors from different regions. The purpose of this space is to capture the planning intentions of the (IJE) brand while maintaining the distinctive characteristics of each branch. Regardless of where you are, there is a space that applies to everyone right now. Accordingly, I decided to name the brand IJE, which is an acronym for the time of experience outside of daily life. No matter which branch of IJE you visit, it is a space that provides 'rest' and 'healing'. The first place in this space to introduce the value of IJE is the Namhae branch.
I am interested in learning more about the planning process for Namhae IJE.
The client provided the direction for the big plan. The spa should be the center of the facility, more specifically. Three bathtubs are available. Therefore, I hope that each experience will be unique. There is a room with a concept of a family bath and an outdoor bathtub is located in a room with a garden or a rooftop. One hotel experience offers three types of bathtubs. In the beginning, I was not sure if I should do this, but the intention of allowing people to experience the spa in various situations and environments led to such an arrangement. As a result, I wondered at first, but the more I thought about it, the more interesting it seemed. Rather, I thought the environment and experience of entering the bathtub would be very different, even though it was the same water. During the process of thinking about how to provide a different bathtub experience, many interesting results emerged. This was the most challenging practical assignment since it is not new construction. There were definitely limitations in terms of space and programming. My goal was to connect every room with the outside environment, but I was not able to accomplish this. It is not uncommon for several rooms on the middle floor to be comprised of separate rooms. Although it is a little unfortunate, since it is a renovation, we have had to make some compromises. However, most of the rooms were designed so that indoor and outdoor spaces were connected horizontally or vertically. Even though it is the same bathtub, the material and feel of the indoor and outdoor bathtubs differ. There was an indoor bathtub made of hinoki, cypress wood, and an outside bathtub made of marble granite. In the same room, there is a bathtub, but I thought that it could create a distinctly different atmosphere. When you soak in water, the air changes completely. When you are indoors, it is cozy and humid, but when you are outdoors in the cool season, your face and upper body will be cold, and your lower body will be warm. Taking this feeling into account, we designed a variety of spa experiences in which indoor and outdoor spaces are connected.
It is very impressive to see the powerful appearance of the building.
I respected the basic layout of the building, which consists of two buildings connected by a dig. Nevertheless, it was very important to discuss where to open it and where to block it. As a result, we decided that it was important for people to be able to view nature from their rooms, so we designed the building to ensure that the outside could be viewed. There was also a great deal of open space on the inside of the draft version. As I was considering it, I decided it would be best to feel the impression or message of the hotel when I first saw it, so I made a closed gesture inside. Structures are bound to material, but the bricks used now are similar to the color of the land in Namhae. There was a great deal of interest in the ground. Our goal was to find bricks of the same color and create a connection between the earth's story and the building's story. During the construction process, we paid close attention to the relationship with the land. In essence, bricks are laminated. Therefore, the bricks are tightly connected, so there is a power that can be felt when they are positioned in a specific manner, and that direction receives a lot of light. Thus, I decided to express this as a tactile texture created by Inje bricks on a wall when light is placed on it. The method I used was to block the inside while leaving the outside open.
IJE, what makes this place special?
There are three main categories of characteristics associated with Namhae branch according to IJE.
The first was aromatherapy, which I decided to do unconditionally in preparation for the opening. Within the given environment, I aimed to provide the most meaningful experience possible. A professional aromatherapy artist was consulted for more than a month on how to use it and oil blending after we explained our intention to him. In total, I recommend seven oils and four blending combinations. Guests at IJE are able to receive recommendations for a combination of essential oil blends through a simple questionnaire at check-in, as well as enjoy aromatherapy with warmers and stones in their rooms.
In the second case, there is a spa. There is a cypress bath in every room. Each guest room has a private spa. A marble open-air bath is located on the outdoor terrace that runs along the length of the room. In addition, there is no additional charge for the separate house bath. It is a spa-centered space that appears excessive. Having experience with a variety of spas and water experiences, I was confident that I could satisfy customers.
Lastly, there is cooking. The memory of cooking does not fall into the category of travel memories. The key to solving everything in accommodation is cooking and eating. We provide healthy and delicious meals that reflect the characteristics of the region, including Namhae specialties. We will of course use local specialties in other branches that will open soon.
Have you heard any stories from guests who have experienced IJE? If so, what kind of stories have you heard?
Very interesting feedback was received. A busy man, he was. It was a busy day for him. He had to eat twice, use the detached house bath twice, and since there are two types of bathtubs in the room, he had to try both of them. Additionally, he had to enjoy the firepit and take a walk. You have to travel by car to Namhae if you are more diligent. The purpose of the visit is to experience a comfortable, long, slow-flowing time, but I am not sure that this busyness is a bad one. It is my belief that if you simply follow what you have to experience in Namhae now and enjoy your busyness, it will be a resting experience with your own momentum. After receiving the key, I opened the door and sat down, but from then on, I think I will be able to take a more meaningful rest here since there is a system that makes the experience of rest much richer than when nothing is provided. It is my hope that you will enjoy the busyness.
STAY’s recommended Local Restaurant
Juran Restaurant
It is a local home-style meal restaurant. It provides a reliable meal that takes care of both health and taste with various kinds of side dishes, soup, and grilled fish. Despite known business hours, it closes when the ingredients are exhausted regardless of the restaurant's cost-effectiveness. Call in advance if you intend to visit. It is also possible to taste seasoned raw fish, which is said to sell out quickly if you visit quickly.
STAY’s recommended Local Shop
Ain River
Namhae Local Food Editorial Shop and Cafe Space. As it selects special products from the South Sea and utilizes sensuous design logos and packages, it is loved by those who visit the South Sea. In Namhae there are many cute souvenirs such as anchovies and seaweed, so it is recommended to stay in the space and consume drinks made of Namhae citron and Yanggang together.
STAY’s recommended Local Cafe
Space Mizo
An innovative cultural space created by remodeling an old freezer. Anchovy fishing boats continue to operate in Mizo Port, Korea's southernmost port, for a whole day. To suit the local theme, an exhibition will be held in a large and heavy building structure. Concerts are sometimes held. Moreover, there is also a bar where you can enjoy wine, and beer produced at the South Sea Brewery, as well as delicious food and beverages. Various lifestyle shops also sell props in collaboration with select shops.
STAY
Nature's Tension and Return to Mother's Arms
As a result, there are horizontal lines, walking heights parallel to the sea, and experiences that correspond to the time of the sea, the night, and the day of the sea. There is a separate bath that can be reserved and used at specific times, as well as an open-air bath and an indoor bath in each room. Watching the waves rise in your heart while soaking in the water and looking at the water. I have found "peace" when I look at migratory birds, seagulls, inconspicuous ripples, and natural scenery with a long, deep, and far perspective, and I wonder what more is needed if I soak in a bathtub filled with warm water. It is not necessary to search for anything.
Humans grew up in the water before being born into the world. As soon as we were born spewing water, we were on the path of asceticism, in the belly of our mother before we were born, where we seemed to return to the time when we were raised with stability and love, with our hands and legs folded and our bodies rounded. You can travel back in time to an ancient era. Just as the land of the sea is repeatedly submerged and exposed by the force of the moon's attraction, we also require that power. The purpose of this is for me to be able to touch the inner ground that I was unable to reveal in my daily life. It is with that power that we lead, Namhae IJE. Currently, there is a place in the South Sea that resembles an invisible hand, a pulling force, and natural tension. In this place, you stand now, focus on the present, feel the present, and feel the present. It is imperative that we live in the present, not in the past or in the future.
4:00 pm
Observing the flow of nature, light, and time
In response to a brief questionnaire at check-in, I was recommended oil and tea. When you enter the room, you see the mountains and mountains surrounded like a folding screen behind the sea of the South Sea, and the exterior flow of light. You can heat the oil in order to make the scent and enjoy a sense of stability related to the outdoor but indoor environment. Nature, the sea, and the mountains are all visible to them. A tranquil landscape is completed by the quiet movements of birds that cut through the wind.
5:00 pm
Blocking that is perfect and intransigent
After changing into daily clothes, the previous day, they enter a separate bath in a perfect secret room through Jungjeong, where bamboo is planted. As you are blocked from the outside, drink warm tea and soak yourself in warm water. Whether you are with your family, your lover, or some friends, this is a great place to spend time together. It will now take 45 minutes to experience a third space within the building.
7:00 pm
Dinner that is neat and orderly
endlessly at the sky and enters the dining room. The food, including seasonal assorted sashimi, is indescribably beautiful, delicious, and neat. You may drink the wine that you prepared in advance with free Coke. After that, they enjoy Korean beef tujon sukiyaki and sherbet desserts made with famous Namhae citrons. After an hour and a half, I feel as if I have been enjoying myself.
10:00 pm
It is a night when all of the senses are heightened
The open-air bath should be watered and the brazier should be lit. At night, the sound of nature strokes the waves of the mind. The sound of dry wood crackling is indicative of a night of spontaneous praise. Suddenly, the entire body, which has been out of action for some time, stretches. Now that I am feeling the air touching the tip of my nose, I am able to hear the sound of flying more clearly. There is a warm sensation of water on the body as well as an occasional night breeze from the sea.
8:30 am
It is a good morning
Enjoy a bright morning by the private sea while drinking capsule coffee. I had a good night's sleep. For breakfast, take a stroll to the dining room and savor the abalone porridge. Beyond the window, you can see the sea. It is hard for me to believe that we are about to leave.
11:00 pm
Curious about the upcoming season
Would you like to know what the scenery of the next season will be like? The next season intrigued me. There is something that intrigues me about the light and color of the sea, the time when the water comes out and comes in, the expression of the mountains, and the direction of the sun. Counting the days by folding your fingers is the reason for looking for now again. It is impossible to list all the reasons. The air and food here will be different next season. As a result, the body and mind are able to turn around and resume daily activities quite easily.
4 POINT OF VIEW
ORIGINALITY
Collecting fragments of scattered sensation maximized excitement
Everyday repetition, fragments of sensation under dull calluses. Arrange the pieces one, two, and three at a time. The senses of hearing, smell, taste, sight, and touch. Rather than focusing on the immediate future, now I focus on "now." The sense of the essence is developed through the visualization of wind, the visualization of air, and the tactileization of temperature. There is no limit to the amount of emotion one can experience. The world of inspiration is vast, wide, and deep.
DESIGN
The design of the experience, the integration with nature, and the balance of the eyes
A perfect secret room with walls and materials that resemble the South Seas, an indoor and outdoor spa experience, and an indoor and outdoor spa experience. In the past few decades, experience has been designed and spatialized, and now dreams of being integrated with nature and is formed in any room. A perfect balance of an open outer gaze and a perfectly blocked inner gaze illustrates the flow of light as well as the direction of the wind and the change of season.
Hospitality
A solid rebuilding possesses inner strength
Looking back on your crooked and dangerously accumulated mind, you stand in a closed middle space stacked with bricks. It is in this courtyard where a variety of elements gather together to form a side and visualize time and wind flowing above it, that we are able to look at the twisted layer of mind as it is. We are able to see and understand by accepting the perfectly blocked inside, perfectly opened outside gaze, and the intentionally constructed movement and sensation in this time have power far beyond the senses.
PRICE
Embrace one's busyness with ease
It is not at all relaxing to be here at the moment. There is a great deal to accomplish. Dinner, breakfast, and rice must be consumed twice, a walk along the coast must be taken, and sunset must be viewed while walking on the drained seabed. It is recommended that you soak your body in both indoor and outdoor bathtubs, take separate baths, and drink tea. It is necessary to burn firewood at night in order to create a hole. We are busy. When you enter the space, you simply need to follow the tightly designed experience unconsciously without having to say a word of good. Your busyness should be enjoyed with ease.
