Located in Changshing-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, Changshin Creative House is a rental house, created by design group Z_Lab who recreates the ordinary day’s space. They incorporated small details in every corner of the house so visitors can experience both past and present of the city. Guests can have a party or enjoy BBQ or an open-air bath while taking in the Hanok’s atmosphere. It has a unique system: on the weekdays, Z_Lab uses it as an office and workshop, and on the weekends, guests can rent a room.

Changshin Creative House means “a house that arouses new inspiration,” originally from beopgochangshin, meaning “Learn from the old and create the new.” With this value, Z_Lab revitalized an old Hanok built in 1937 to a unique and charming single rental house. Changshin Creative House is the only place with nobody stationed where both Korean and international travelers can stay, party, and camp. It presents a memory to last, away from the ordinary life, with your special one.

They brought Kaare Klint’s customized handmade wooden furniture to overcome the space limit that Hanok’s structure imposes. Fabric and lighting was carefully selected, as well, adding dynamic energy to the house. It’s also impressive that advantages of the house are fully maximized, giving them a new role in the new concept. The sunlight directly falls onto the yard and a tree of heaven, which has long stood there witnessing the history of the house, creates shade, all together symbolizing the house’s identity. In proximity to many tourist areas such as Dongdaemun Design Plaza, Fortress Wall of Seoul—soon to be designated on UNESCO’s Cultural Heritage List—and Dongdaemun Night Market, Changshin Creative House is a great place to spend a special night while enjoying the history and culture of Seoul.
