Into West Jeju, Peace and Serenity
There’s a quiet village called Dumo-ri in Hangyeong-meon, the west side of Jeju Island. Dumo means “round,” in Chinese characters. The village still preserves a tranquil atmosphere unlike other Jeju villages’ noise with different kinds of construction development going on. Jeju house Dumogoing is located in Dumo port, which seems rounder than its neighbors. It’s a fishing village abundant with wind and windmills. Located in the west, the sunset in the evening makes a spectacular view in Dumogong.
Dumogong is laid on a triangular land as a cozy three-story house. Each floor adopted the concept of Jeju’s traditional house—angeori (space of parents), bakkeori (space for married couples) and mogeori (separate house or space for children)—and presents different personality of each space. The separated space on each floor gives you the privacy you need while allowing the access to other places in the building. A yard connecting to the main door, bathroom, kitchen and cafeteria is on the first floor, and a small place sharing the space with the cafeteria is between the first and the second floor. On the second, you can see a living room, bedroom, and bathroom and on the third, drawing room and a bedroom, perfect for a family.
In its name, Dumogong, “gong (空)” means emptiness in Chinese characters. How about staying here to relax and recharge in the empty space of Dumo-ri where you can feel the original Jeju? On a clear day, in the living room on the second floor where windows surround you on all sides, you can enjoy the sunrise of Hallasan Mountain and the sunset of the sea. I recommend enjoying a relaxing time with nice meals and drinks after you have bath in the hinoki bathtub on the second floor bathroom and the sunset with your loved ones.
