Traditional Korean House Stay Holding the Value of Korean’s Care and Wisdom
Gurume means “a happy village on the cloud,” the first traditional Korean house resort that restored 8 units of traditional houses that were in danger of removal as Andong Dam was constructed. All 8 units have lasted for 200 years and even up to 400 years, preserving history, letting you experience the spirit of art and entertainment that scholars of the past have planted in Andong. The houses were renovated and reborn into a simple and elegant modern Hanok, connecting the generations of people.
Among 8 house units at Gurume, one unit is used for as the information center and the remaining 7 units are prepared as guestrooms. While keeping the beautiful tradition, the houses feature convenient elements of modern technology. It features not only modern design but a functional bathroom, smart key for security and privacy as well as A/C and heating. A Hanok’s structure that makes opening and closing easy, allows sunlight and air to come in to both bedrooms and bathroom, working as a natural thermo control system and maximizing the charm of the old traditional house.
Gurume is also a meaningful case where private and public sectors together are preserving local value. Gurume is currently operated by the social company Happy Traditional Village formed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province and City of Andong. It has introduced Korea’s care and hospitality to many visitors. This place also hosts traditional performances, Korean food catering and small-sized workshops. During your stay, you can look around Confucian Land, the experience center and theme park under the theme Confucian culture, which is the root of Korea’s spirituality.
