A Quiet Moment of Solace
On the table, the shadow of the leaves swaying in the wind is reflected. It does not take long for time to seem to have stopped and the mind becomes peaceful. As a child, Hanok was like a free playground for a host, and he spent much of his time in Kohyuon. The room was filled with old books and ceramics owned by the family, as well as old furniture from the Joseon Dynasty, celadon from the Goryeo Dynasty, and earthenware from the Silla Dynasty. The beauty of hanok gradually deepens and is embodied in a word called "Kohyuon," which means "immeasurable deep and profound" in old Korean.
Using a sincere touch, the wood, which has been solid for more than 80 years, has been reconstructed with a modern aesthetic in an effort to preserve the long-standing emotions of the village and house. Stone lanterns and stone objects were grown while children looked at them as children were moved to the garden as the pillars, beams, and rafters of the hanok, built in 1949, were raised one by one. While maintaining the warm atmosphere unique to hanoks, the interior did not lose its modernity. In addition to using traditional techniques for Kohyuon, the furniture blends seamlessly with old furniture such as Joseon's Soban, Seoan, and Dongwe. Jang Gyeong-ho and Go-bae were exhibited on a shelf reproducing the four-way table, where they had inherited earthenware and ancient books as well as collected one piece with affection. Moreover, it is filled with the hope that the collected crafts will experience the small comfort of the works after a long wait.
The accumulation of time outside of this place continues. In Gangneung, Myeongju-dong is an old town built around Namdaecheon Stream. A creative store that contributes to the revitalization of the neighborhood coexists with national treasures and modern cultural heritages. Don't you think it would be nice if you walked softly and felt the atmosphere that only time can present and permeate naturally?
