Feel the essence of beauty in your heart
On the small hill in Nanki-Shirahama, Wakayama Prefecture, a building that used to operate as a cooking inn has been renovated and reborn as a hot spring accommodation called "Kuroshio Sou" since July 2023. What kind of wonderful journey does Kuroshio Sou want to propose? It is said to have reached the answer, not just in the bright moments like fully bloomed flowers or a full moon but in the deeper and truer beauty, described as "authentic," that one can appreciate more and more. For example, the beauty of Wakayama's nature, its abundance, and the softness of its light. The world you see through travel is extraordinary, and everything is new, but somewhere in Shirahama's scenery, there is a longing and inspiration to create a rich and mindful travel experience. Kuroshio Sou draws inspiration from the idea found in the 137th stanza of "Tsurezuregusa (Essays in Idleness)," an early medieval Japanese essay, which says, "Feel the essence of beauty with your heart." Additionally, various facilities are designed to encourage guests to face themselves or express their feelings to someone dear on the theme of writing. Enjoy Shirahama's gastronomy and hot springs to the fullest, and sometimes, gaze at magnificent views while writing. We hope you spend time here that allows you to release both body and mind, something you cannot experience in your daily life.

Both the common areas and guest rooms are based on Japanese modern design infused with craftsmanship and materials from Wakayama, allowing you to experience the charm of Wakayama Prefecture while enjoying a comfortable stay. In contrast to the serene entrance with suppressed ceiling height, the lobby is bright and open, with interior elements like benches and tables made from 100-year-old Japanese cedar found in Wakayama's soil, giving them a strong presence. Beyond the outdoor terrace, you can enjoy the village scenery and the sea of Shirahama. Various relaxation spaces have been provided so that guests can spend their time comfortably, such as reading a book in the library while enjoying the magnificent view. The abundant sunlight creates a refreshing atmosphere during the day, while warm lighting creates a cozy ambiance at night. The rooms designed with meditation in mind include Garden View Standard Rooms and Corner Junior Suites with semi-open-air baths, featuring simple interiors with modest materials like wood, bamboo, and earth, providing warmth. When you look outside the window, you will discover the dense greenery of swaying trees, the beauty of overlapping ridges. Not only the white sandy beach and the sea but also the natural landscapes will make you forget your daily life.

You can enjoy meals at a refreshing restaurant based on bamboo and wood. By adding modern arrangements to the concept of a lodging that emphasizes mindfulness and authenticity, the accommodation serves authentic Japanese cuisine, with attention to detail even in the dishes, reflecting a simple modern inspiration. Furthermore, one of the great attractions of Kuroshio Sou is the opportunity to enjoy the natural hot spring flow of "Nanki Shirahama Onsen," one of Japan's three oldest hot springs. They have prepared large baths with open-air baths made of Japanese cypress and traditional Japanese-style wooden tubs. When you soak in the bath, you can enjoy a view like a painting, with a foreground of natural stones and white sandy beach, a middle ground full of greenery in the garden, and a background of the white sandy beach known as "Danabe Beach." In the semi-open-air bath, you can feel the natural wind and see the garden filled with greenery through the lattice. The private, serene atmosphere of the large bath surrounded by trees allows you to enjoy the hot spring in peace through the front blind. How about spending leisurely time at Kuroshio Sou, where you can fully enjoy the richness of Wakayama's nature and materials, as well as the taste of local cuisine?
