While strolling through the meandering alleys of the ancient city of Tainan, visitors will find the guesthouse “Laile” at the heart of the city, near the famous destination Chikan Tower. Tucked away in Xinmei Street, the enchanting Laile building dates back 70~80 years and gives off an air of old-time nostalgia. The owner of the guesthouse is none other than the celebrated interior designer Jimmy Pan. When Pan stumbled across the shabby building – the only compound housing structure in the area – he was determined to redesign and renovate the building to bring to life his own imaginations of what an old house in Tainan should feel like. This gave birth to Laile.
Upon entering the narrow guesthouse building, guests will find themselves in a lush courtyard basking in natural sunlight that is so welcoming that they may be tempted to spend hours there. The attention-to-detail and taste of the designer can be found in every corner of the house, and the vintage Taiwanese-style terracotta floor, tiling, and window grills all recall the good old times. Laile has eight double rooms, and each room follows a distinctive theme, each has a distinctive “profession” theme, including: a flower cultivator, a diving instructor, a dancer, a travel writer and more. The eight rooms and their respective "owners" have distinctive style and taste, and they can hardly wait to welcome and exchange life stories with their guests.
Wake up in the morning and enjoy breakfast prepared by the host in the atrium surrounded by greenery. Afterwards, explore the Old Town of the surrounding attractions with a hand-drawn map provided by the host. Take a stroll down the nearby Guohua Street and Zhengxing Street to see the old Tainan. A day in Lila is the perfect way to enjoy Tainan's old days and fully enjoy the city.
