Like an Ordinary Day Staying at My Own Place
What if there was a unique space in one of the most famous tourist attractions Gwangalli, Busan, where you can live like home, not as a traveler? Lost Penguin, located in a residential area between Gwangan Station and the beach, instead of an entertainment district on the beach, was built by a host who returned home after 12 years of living in Seoul and Europe. She poured all of her knowledge she learned in other regions and her delicate sentiment into the house. On the land the host has done a year of legwork for, her friend Kim Byeong-chan, a professor in Architecture Department of the Korea National University of Arts, designed the place for another year, and an additional one more year to build it. It was slowly completed but finally opened for travelers. The house is glowing in white light in the old neighborhood, the look attesting to its name “Lost Penguin.”
Lost Penguin has two rooms for 2 guests and one room for 4 guests with separate entrances. These two types of rooms are in the multi-floor building, which gives you a unique space experience. The loft guestroom on the second floor has a queen size bed on the top floor, and the rest—kitchen, bathroom and living room—on the bottom floor, naturally separating the spaces. White walls and wooden stairs accentuate the natural feeling, perfect for couples. On the other hand, a studio room located on the third floor, is suitable for a business trip or a solo traveler. Exposed concrete makes the place industrial. The inclined exposed concrete walls and colorless furniture on the rooftop are stylish. When you see the unique spiral staircase that brings a unique space awareness, an iron gate with a keypad and sunshine coming through the windows in different shapes and sizes on the slanted walls, you will not hesitate to come here for your next trip with your partner. It’s a great place to make quick snack or food in the kitchen with an oven. You can also soak your body in the bath after a stroll to the beach.
Laundry club, a self-service laundry mat, is located on the first floor of the building. A clean and modern interior and refreshing color of the washer and dryer will make you feel like you’re at a café. It’s an automatic service with no employees, so you can conveniently do the laundry right after spending time at the beach. Why don’t you stay a night at Lost Penguin if you desired to live in the seaside village away from the city?
