제주 동쪽, 반달 모양의 마을과 달이 떠오르는 바닷가 월정리에 60년의 시간을 담은 월정담이 문을 열었다. 오래전 다져놓았을 나무 기둥과 제주의 투박함이 담긴 돌을 없애지 않고 옛 돌집 그대로의 모습에 사용자의 편안함을 강조했다. 어여쁜 쪽빛 바다 앞 작은 골목에 들어서면 과거와 현재 그리고 앞으로 이어질 시간의 걸음을 담은 배려가 느껴지고, 변화하는 하루의 모습도 매력으로 다가온다. 아침이 오면 잔디 가득한 마당에 하얀 빛의 그림자가 드리우고 무게를 더하는 빛은 오랜 시간 공간 곳곳에 머물며 찰나를 선사한다. 밤이 되면 지붕 위에 자리한 달은 밤새 담 안의 시간을 비춘다.

짙은 나무 문을 열고 한 발 징검다리를 밟아내면 두 동의 공간과 수영장 그리고 푸릇한 식물이 있다.  A동은 침실과 주방이 있고 돌벽 너머 계단 위에는 고요한 밤, 다락의 운치를 느낄 수 있는 숨은 공간 '달락'이 있다. 주방 너머에 연결된 테라스는 통창을 열어두면 시원한 바람을 만끽할 수 있다. 고요하고 편안한 시간을 보내고 싶다면 B동의 작은 돔 '소랑'에 머물러 보는 게 좋다. 침실 옆에 자리 한 소랑은 하늘이 보이는 돔으로 책을 읽거나 차 한 잔을 하는 것만으로도 좋은 시간이 된다. 소랑을 지나 걸으면 환하게 트인 유리창과 서까래가 아름다운 '솔짜기'가 있다. 풍경과 사람들과의 소곤거림이 그려지는 곳이다.

월정담의 시작은 '제주살이'다. 소란스러운 일상을 벗어나 제주에 오면 누구나 한 번쯤 생각하는 '제주에서의 삶'을 위해 오랜 옛집을 닦아 만들었다. 집 앞에 펼쳐진 아름다운 바닷가 주변은 제주바다의 설렘을 채워주고, 골목에 들어서는 순간 찾아오는 고요함은 여행이 아닌 우리 집에 들어서는 기분이 든다. 제주에 살면 어떤 하루를 보낼 수 있을까? 침대에 누워 창 두드리는 아침 해를 볼 수 있다. 집 앞의 바다를 언제든지 만끽할 수 있고 자연으로 둘러싸인 공간을 만날 수 있다. 쏟아질 듯 반짝이는 별과 달을 밤새 볼 수 있다. 바삐 돌아가는 시간 속의 내가 아닌 담 안의 느린 시간을 만나는 곳, 월정담이 있다.

On the east side of Jeju Island stands Moon Dam, a stay with 60 years of beauty. The space emphasizes the comfort of guests through its design while maintaining the compacted wooden pillars and the stones containing the ruggedness of Jeju. When you enter the small alley in front of the pretty indigo sea, you can see the considerate layout, embracing the past, the present, and the steps to move forward in time. As the morning comes, a ray of white light casts on the yard with the grass laid on it. In the evening, the moon above the roof illuminates the time spent inside the stone walls overnight.

When one opens the dark wooden door and take steps on the stepping stones, there are two Buildings, a swimming pool, and some luscious greenery. Building A has a bedroom and a kitchen, and on the opposite side of the stone wall, there is the hidden spot Dalak, where you can feel the atmosphere as quiet as that of an attic in a quiet night. If one wishes to have a calm and relaxing time, it is a good idea to stay in the small dome called 'Sorang' in Building B. Located next to the bedroom, Sorang is a dome overlooking the sky, making it a great place to read a book or have a cup of tea.

Escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and experience the unique ‘lifestyle’ of Jeju' that everyone immediately feels as they step into Jeju Island. The beautiful beach in front of the house fills the air with excitement and the silence that comes the moment you enter an alley makes you feel like you are entering your childhood home rather than a trip. What makes that ‘Jeju lifestyle’ so special? You can lie in bed and watch the morning sun as it comes knocking on the window. You can enjoy the sea in front of the house at any time and interact with nature surrounding you. You can see the twinkling stars and the moon all night. Moon Dam is a place where you meet true relaxation and a slow-paced version of yourself.
