As I look around, sitting on a wooden porch, I see hanok roofs surrounding me. As if time stopped moving, the tranquil moment makes me forget my sense of time. Mouryub, capturing some day of 1970’s Jeonju, inherits the tradition of an original hanok but at the same time it adds modern interpretation to complete the space.
Under the tiled roof, the pine tree gate takes me to another dimension of time and space. The garden area finished with basalt and a traditional house reveals itself. Unlike a common hanok, this house presents a unique style with thinner and atypical rafters and a lower structure. As I open the door past the wooden porch, the scent, specifically crafted for Mouryub, tickles my nose. Embroider themed with flowers and birds, a small folding dining table in the living room add unique identity to the place. Two separate guestrooms have goose bedding for maximum comfort.
Each space has goods made with Mouryub’s wish to reach the guests. You will forget about how the time passes by when you play with yut (stick pieces used for traditional Korean board game) and traditional Korean jackstones crafted by Jeonju Nambu Market’s sewing master. Postcards and pencils are also prepared for those who want to keep their precious memories. I sit on the wooden porch and sip on chrysanthemum tea. I try to leave the memory and feeling I experienced here in words.
