Just like the host couple of Sunny Side Up, many may have dreamt of a home blessed with sapphire blue ocean, warm sunlight and sound of waves. After travelling numerous places and areas, the couple fell in love with a seaside village in Yangyang, Gangwon Province. Giving their heart to the atmosphere of the village and splendid scenery of the seaside, they hesitated very little to roll out their project of building their dream home on a gentle hill. The original idea was to create a space for themselves, but soon modified their idea to open a space with the name, Sunny Side Up to share their memories and stories from their past trips and vacations.
The co-hosts run a café on the first floor and an accommodation on the second floor. The house with many years of history has gone through a makeover with brilliant ideas of painting the exterior with yellow and green – an inspiration from houses in the seaside villages that the couple spotted during their vacation in Spain. What was once a warehouse for fishers, the first floor was with low ceiling transformed into a café with cozy atmosphere. Further, the second floor was filled with wooden furniture and warm-colored accessories to give a finish inspired from relaxing mood from the past travel destinations. Indeed, from the windows in various shapes, the scenery looks as though Sunny Side Up is placed in an exotic resort facility.
The host couple prepared accessories and items, including vintage turntable, LPs and artbooks, to readily share their tastes and nudge guests into making lasting memories. And most of all, it only takes a few walks down the small stairs in front of the house to reach a beach, another highlight of staying in the couple’s dream home. The couple believes small yet good memories add up to bring happiness in life. These memories may not necessarily be special, yet still would make you smile when you look back later. The host couple sincerely hopes that time spent in Sunny Side Up could someday make their guests smile when they flash back.
