Architecture that Embraces the Texture of Nature: Urban Plot
Apr 15 to Apr 30
A space that becomes life itself
There are things you begin to see and hear only when you pause—the direction of sunlight, the flow of wind, the scent of seasons drifting beyond an old stone wall. Urban Plot creates spaces by following these natural textures, reconnecting the forgotten gaps between people and nature, between time and life—gaps that fast-paced cities often overlook.
Jeju Island is a place that constantly poses questions to Urban Plot. Here, the stays they create prioritize feeling over function, flow over structure. Boundaries fade, and the outdoors and indoors harmonize into a singular landscape. If you're looking for rest that matches your own rhythm, now is the time to experience the stays by Urban Plot.

Stay from Apr to Jun (Sun - Thu only) 10% off - A name that evokes the atmosphere of a home, Vintage Jeju is a place where three old stone houses in Hangeong-myeon, Jeju, have been transformed into a stay. With the mindset that something valuable and new can be created even from the old, we reinterpreted the fading traditional spaces of Jeju. We carefully considered the house’s form to harmonize with the landscape of Yongsoori village, and hope that this place becomes a new journey in Jeju, where people can enjoy parties and relaxation in nature.
Q. What were the key elements considered in the design process of 'Wollyeon'?
‘Wollyeon’ is composed of two buildings set on the dramatic terrain of Jeju, where wind, rocks, water, and forests come together. The buildings, Woldong and Yeondong, face different directions but embrace each other’s presence, creating a single narrative.
Woldong is a building that seems to embrace its surroundings. Drawing inspiration from the sensation of a pine tree hill standing firm through storms, the design aims for the architecture to act as a staircase that ascends naturally into the landscape. On the other hand, Yeondong is like a bridge extending horizontally from a cliff, embodying a gesture of stepping into the world as a brave adventure.
The spaces within these two buildings are not just simple architectural configurations but are intended to feel like a journey—‘crossing walls and bridges’—as life expands.
Q. Like in your previous projects, it is impressive that 'Wollyeon' is closely connected to the natural environment of Jeju. Is there a particular landscape of Jeju that you prioritized in 'Wollyeon'?
The land I first encountered was a rugged hill where pine trees, rocks, and dry streams were intertwined. I believe that architecture should not erase the textures of nature, but rather flow along with them.
Woldong naturally becomes a staircase ascending through the rock forest, while Yeondong is placed like a bridge extending toward the sea from the edge of a cliff.
Through this, the space that was once abandoned below the cliff has been revived through a new vertical and horizontal connection, and between the buildings, Jeju’s old stone walls and the landscape of year-round farming gently unfold. I hoped these scenes would come together as a single, narrative landscape.
Q. The 40-meter swimming pool must have been quite a challenging element in the design process. What was the reason for incorporating such a large pool into the stay?
The swimming pool at Wollyeon goes beyond being just a functional space; it symbolizes a passage that connects nature and sensory experiences. We wanted to embrace the physical qualities of water—its reflection of light, the fluctuations of temperature, and the rippling sounds. All of these sensory elements were essential for us.
The moment when sunlight stretches long across the surface of the water, or when the wind stirs the water. On rainy days, the ripples spreading across the calm surface. We hoped these moments would become a landscape in themselves and serve as a medium for relaxation.
Q. Finally, what kind of experience would you like visitors to have when staying at Wollyeon?
We don’t want this place to be merely a beautiful location. We hope it becomes a landscape where visitors can slow down the pace of life for a day and reconnect with nature and themselves.
On the way to Wollyeon, visitors will climb stairs and cross bridges. They will naturally experience a ‘walking time,’ and if they slow down their steps for a moment, they will begin to notice the direction of light, the movement of the wind, and the sound of water.
Through these sensory experiences, we hope the architecture will feel like a living, breathing landscape rather than a static structure.
