Sinchon-ri in Jeju is a seashore village which can first and foremost be described as a quiet peaceful place. Among the old houses in the village, we found a house with traces going back to four generations of a family. We completed the space with a design that blends modern aesthetics with the charm of the original house, keeping the traces of the old as much as possible.
Around the house, stories and traces of people who have lived from generation to generation are unavoidable, bringing authenticity without artificial decorations. The old Gopang (warehouse), a small storage space with the wooden doors and floor boards with the stone wall show that the tastes of the owner are well preserved. It took a lot of time and effort to keep these traces as they were. While you're in the Jocheon Masilm, I hope you will feel the quaint traces of the past and feel connected to the lives that were here before.
This is an old stone house well over 200 years old. The little burned furnace, wooden doors and floors, rough cupboards have contained everyday odds and ends. This place is full of the brightest things that were left untouched.
The dining room is carefully filled with a table for six people and utensils for cooking. Enjoy the pleasure of cooking and dining together, and enjoy the barbeque on the outdoor deck.
In the Gopang (a Jeju dialect meaning warehouse or storeroom) placed in the middle of the yard, there is a cypress bath where you can relax comfortably. Outside the bathroom of the adjoining building, you will find another open-air bath surrounded by stone walls.
When driving here, search for the address ‘ShinchonBuk 3-gil 22’ on the navigation. It's about 40 minutes from Jeju International Airport.
