A Hidden Shelter with Movie and Rest for a Recluse
As modern people are living a complex life, their interest has been shifting from the materialistic and quantitative to intangible and qualitative value. If you slowly walk along the hanok-dense area with your back on the boulevard in Tongin-dong, Jongno-gu, you can see a special hanok where you can relish your private time. The place was inspired by House of Recluse by Jeong Yak-yong (penname Dasan), one of the most renowned scholars of the Joseon Dynasty, and named Losthouse. It welcomes visitors who would like to find a complete shelter away from the outside world.

Losthouse is an L-shaped hanok and consists of a courtyard, bedroom, dining room, and a movie room. Each room becomes one space connected by the door but it also opens to the outside, providing a variety of experiences to guests. The space between the bedroom and the movie room is a powder room but at the same time it serves as a screen space where images are projected. In the cute and neat dining room, you can enjoy a light meal, drip coffee, and reading. The low wooden furniture that accentuates the characteristics of hanok is also a detail that effectively utilizes a small space and a thoughtful touch that connects the interior and the yard.

While staying here, you can experience inner healing with elements such as fragrance, light, music and warmth. As you enter through the wooden door, you will encounter the scent of Sutome, which is also the name of the natural fragrance brand and the motif of the space. Pass by the warm George Nelson Bubble Lamp. Let go of heavy burdens and distractions for a while by spending the afternoon with a movie created by the art of light and time. Filling the foot bath with warm water hidden under the table feels pleasantly rewarding. The house is equipped with IoT functions to make the hanok experience more comfortable while keeping the serene atmosphere of the traditional house. Intuitively controlling the light, music and temperature to your own emotion and taste will be one of the virtues of the recluse. Just like this, beyond a simple traditional house experience, I hope your time at Losthouse brings out questions of your life that lingered inside of you and gives you courage to face them.
